How Pleating is Achieved
Pleating involves folding fabric into various shapes to create differences in volume and texture. The process uses a mould made of two identically folded pieces of card that fit together, with an outer wrapper to protect the pattern during heating.
To pleat fabric, it's sandwiched between the two cards, laid flat, folded into shape, and rolled tightly. An outer wrapper protects this parcel, which is then placed in a steam cabinet to set the fabric's shape. Once cooled, the fabric retains the pleated pattern.
